- Feedstocks development - research, development, and demonstration regarding feedstocks and feedstock logistics, including harvest, handling, transport, preprocessing, and storage, relevant to production of raw materials for conversion to biofuels, bioenergy, and bio-based products
- Biofuels & bio-based products development - research, development, and demonstration activities for development of diverse cost-effective tcehnologies for the use of cellulosic biomass in the prosecution of biofuels, bioenergy, and bio-based products, and product diversification relevant to production of bio-based products (chemicals, animal feeds, cogeneration power)
- Biofuels & bio-based products development analysis - methods to qualify the technology and/or positive impact on sustainability and the environment; study environmental, social, and economic implications
