Spencer County's Courthouse takes lighting "back to the future"

While the Spencer County Courthouse is considerably older than the classic 80s movie “Back to the Future,” they did just that with their lighting retrofit project: they took it back to the future!

Spencer County was awarded an EECBG grant last year for $36,000 for their lighting retrofit project. Fluorescent fixtures, incandescent fixtures and exit signs were all replaced with high efficiency lighting and the exit signs also received battery backups.

Oh, and that reference to Back to the Future?  It comes from the County’s desire to preserve the historic nature of this beautiful courthouse, and they therefore duplicated historic lamp covers for all lighting fixtures. It is a beautiful and grand building and now it is well lit with energy efficiency lighting!

Spencer County received an Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant (EECBG), an American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) program offered by the U.S. Department of Energy and administered through the Indiana Office of Energy Development.
